Special Weather Statement
With temperatures below freezing across the region any snowmelt that occurred during the day will refreeze, especially on untreated surfaces, resulting in black ice. Then a period of light snow is likely by late tonight into the Wednesday morning commute, 400 AM to 1000 AM EST. This light snow, 1 to 2 inches, falling on top of the black ice could make for treacherous travel. Rain may also mix in with the snow along the coast early Wednesday morning. Motorists should be prepared for the possibility of a period of snow covered roads during the morning commute. Temperatures will be rising above freezing during the morning from south to north.

Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The damaging winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected tonight into Monday.

In New York, Southern Westchester County. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to 5 AM EST Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline likely. 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level possible in low lying, vulnerable areas. This would result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. If shift to northerly winds occurs earlier than time of high tide, water levels will fall to the low end or even below the forecast range.

***Band of Heavy Snow Moving into the Area*** A heavy band of snow along the Connecticut coast into western Long Island will continue to lift to the northwest with possible snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour rates impacting the area. Periodic bands of heavy snow will move across the area through the night as low pressure rapidly intensifies to the south. In between bands, snowfall rates may drop off to about an inch per hour. In addition, winds will become a factor as the night progresses. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

Snowfall rates one to two inches per hour at times, especially Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Light snow will linger through much of the day on Monday before ending by Monday night.
