Areas of light freezing drizzle will end prior to daybreak,
however light snow is already advancing across the area. The light
snow will persist through the morning before diminishing toward
afternoon. An inch or less of accumulation is expected this
morning. However, the combination of light snow and ice will make
any untreated paved surface icy this morning. Drivers should use
extreme caution during the morning commute.

Special Weather Statement
Periodic bursts of snowfall this evening will lead to drops in
visibility and roads becoming snow covered and slick. This will
primarily impact areas close to and west of Interstate 75 across
northern lower Michigan. Snow will taper through the night across
interior northern lower Michigan, becoming more focused on areas
near and south of Grand Traverse Bay after 11 PM. Snow showers in
the Grand Traverse Bay area will carry into Tuesday.
While most locations will see less than an inch of snow, some
areas across Charlevoix, Antrim, Otsego, Crawford, and Kalkaska
counties may see as much as an inch to 1.5 inches of snowfall by
Tuesday morning. For those near Grand Traverse Bay, locally
higher amounts approaching 4 inches are possible by Tuesday
afternoon.
If you must travel this evening into tonight, be cognizant of
weather conditions, remember to increase following distance, and
use low beams during periods of reduced visibility.

Hydrologic Outlook
ESFGRR
Bitterly cold temperatures moving into Michigan over the next few
days will increase the risk of ice jams on rivers. While many
locations have already frozen over, ongoing ice growth will continue
to increase in any open water areas.
These temperatures have not been seen for many years in West
Michigan, which means that some areas that don't typically
experience river ice jams may have issues this year. Ice jams can
result in water levels rising much more quickly than usual, which
can catch people off guard. Anyone living or working near rivers in
West Michigan should prepare now for potential river ice and rising
water levels.
While temperatures warm up a bit early next week, this overall cold
weather pattern will continue through at least next week, which will
keep ice locked in place on the rivers.
You can always find the latest river level information at water.noaa.
