Fire Weather Watch
...A FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR WEDNESDAY... The combination of unseasonably warm temperatures (highs in the 60s), dry conditions (RH values around 15-25%), and gusty west- southwest winds (gusting around 35-40 mph) will lead to an elevated fire danger on Wednesday. While fuel moistures may be more questionable in some areas, local fire agencies indicate that finer fuels are primed and could lead to rapid fire spread in these conditions. For this reason, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for portions of northern Illinois on Wednesday. Confidence in Red Flag Warning criteria being met is currently highest along and north of Interstate 88. The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Fire Weather Watch, which is in effect from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. * Affected Area...Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake IL, Ogle, Lee, De Kalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy and Will. * Timing...From Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. * Winds...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * Relative Humidity...As low as 15 percent. * Impacts...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Special Weather Statement
A band of light snow this evening (expected accumulations up to 1/2 inch) will be followed by a period of freezing drizzle tonight into early Monday morning. Expecting roads that are not snow covered or treated to become slick with freezing drizzle. Precipitation will end west to east early Monday morning. Leave extra time for travel tonight and use extra caution, as conditions may be slippery due to the combination of snow and freezing drizzle.

Hydrologic Outlook
ESFLOT Waves of showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening across portions of northeastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana. The highest rainfall rates are expected this evening as atmospheric moisture increases to near record levels for January and a line of showers and thunderstorms moves through the area. Small isolated corridors may receive rainfall in excess of 1-2 inches, especially in areas where storms orient in a more southwest to northeast direction. Rainfall amounts of this magnitude sometimes cause localized flooding of streams and poor drainage areas during the winter months. Areas with streets, drainage ditches, and stormwater drains impacted by late fall and early winter vegetation debris may be especially susceptible to flooding. This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts are possible, but not yet certain, based upon the latest forecasts. Persons with interests along area streams and rivers should closely monitor the latest forecasts. In addition, ensure that nearby stormwater drains and ditches are cleared of debris.
Special Weather Statement
Water freezing on roads, along with patchy fog that may freeze on surfaces, may cause some slick spots and black ice tonight into Thursday morning. Untreated and secondary roads would be the most vulnerable areas, along with bridges and overpasses. Slow down and drive carefully into Thursday morning, and allow for extra stopping distance between vehicles.
