Moderate flooding is occurring with renewed rises along the Thomson River at Bogewong. Minor flooding is occurring at Jundah. The Thomson River at Camoola Park is currently at 0.90 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Thomson River at Camoola Park is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m). The Thomson River at Stonehenge is currently at 1.80 m and steady, below the minor flood level. The Thomson River at Stonehenge may exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Saturday. The river may reach around 2.80 m during Monday, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Jundah is currently at 2.58 m and steady, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Jundah is likely to remain around the minor flood level (2.50 m) for the next few days. Renewed rises are likely as upstream flows arrive.

Maximum temperatures generally in the low to mid forties. Overnight minimum temperatures generally in the mid twenties to low thirties. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist over the weekend before easing early next week as slightly milder conditions develop over inland areas. Locations likely to be impacted include Birdsville, Cunnamulla, Longreach, Quilpie, Thargomindah and Windorah.

As at 06:00 pm AEST Monday morning, the Thomson River at Camoola Park was at 2.75 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Camoola Park is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the remainder of Monday into Tuesday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 1.51 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Thomson River at Longreach may exceed the minor flood level (3.30 m) from Tuesday 06 January. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

FURTHER FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS PARTS OF THE NORTH EAST QUEENSLAND COAST Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast to continue over parts of the North East Tropical Coast during Monday and ease from Tuesday. However, further heavy rainfall may redevelop across the flood watch area from later in the week. Elevated river levels and areas of flooding are occurring in catchments across the North East Tropical Coast. Further rainfall during Monday and into Tuesday may cause continued river level rises across the Flood Watch area, as well as areas localised flooding. Catchments are wet following recent rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall.

FURTHER FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF NORTH AND NORTHWEST QUEENSLAND The monsoon low over northwest Queensland is forecast to continue generating heavy rainfall in the northwest and northern interior of Queensland over the next few days. Over the northeast coast, convergent onshore winds between Cooktown and Bowen over the next few days are forecast to cause heavy rainfall. Elevated river levels and areas of flooding are occurring across many catchments in north Queensland. Heavy rainfall over the next few days is likely to cause continued and dangerous river level rises, as well as localised flooding. Road closures and community isolation are occurring in some areas, with additional areas likely to be at risk over the next few days. Catchments are wet following recent rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall. A Severe Weather Warning is current for Heavy Rainfall across parts of the Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West and Central West Forecast Districts. A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for Heavy Rainfall across parts of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to continue today for parts of Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West and Central West Forecast Districts.Widespread six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 to 70 mm are likely, with isolated heavy falls of 100mm possible. These conditions also present a risk to cattle and other livestock. A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for the northeast tropical coast. Flood Watches and Flood Warnings are current for Northern Queensland. Please refer to https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts for more information. Locations which may be affected include Cloncurry, Richmond, Julia Creek, Stamford, Selwyn and Mckinlay. 106 mm of rainfall was recorded at Broadwater in the 3 hours to 01:14 am today. 99 mm of rainfall was recorded at Julia Creek Airport in the 6 hours to 8:26 pm yesterday. 117 mm of rainfall was recorded at Gilliat River (northwest of Julia Creek) in the 6 hours to 1:41 pm yesterday. 101 mm of rainfall was recorded at Snake Creek in the 6 hours to 1:20 pm yesterday.

Extreme Heat

Maximum temperatures in the low forties over western and central areas with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid twenties. In the east maximum temperatures in the low to mid thirties with overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to mid twenties. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to contract from western parts of the State over the coming days, and ease over the weekend in the east. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Birdsville, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Gympie, Ipswich, Longreach, Mackay, Roma and Winton.
