Air Quality Alert
* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air
Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index
(AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category.
* WHERE...West central, east central, central, south central,
southwest, southeast, north central, northwest, and northeast
Minnesota.
* WHEN...Until noon CDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience
health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung
disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older
adults, may experience health effects.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Surface high pressure will camp out over
the region through Friday evening and will result in light winds
and poor dispersion. Smoke with widespread red/unhealthy air
quality index (AQI) concentrations will likely remain over most
of the state through tonight and into the day Saturday. Winds
will increase out of the south over the weekend as high pressure
drifts east of the area. Smoke concentrations should gradually
decline starting Saturday, but the clearing of the smoke may be
slow with smoke spreading as far south as Tennessee and Missouri.
Orange AQIs (unhealthy for sensitive groups) could hang on
through Sunday and into the day Monday. Most of the alert-level
smoke should push north back into Canada by later Monday.

Air Quality Alert
* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air
Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index
(AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category.
* WHERE...West central, east central, central, south central,
southeast, north central, northwest, southwest, and northeast
Minnesota.
* WHEN...Until 5 PM CDT Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience health
effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease
(including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults,
may experience health effects.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Northerly winds will continue transporting
waves of heavy surface smoke from wildfires across Manitoba and
Saskatchewan into Minnesota. Smoke will move south across all of
Minnesota and linger through Saturday afternoon. The smoke will be
reinforced by an area of high pressure that will create light
winds and limit the dispersion of smoke. Therefore the air quality
alert has been expanded to include all of Minnesota and extended
until Saturday afternoon when the air quality is forecasted to
improve.

provider.
Everyone else: Keep outdoor activities shorter and less intense.
Go inside if you have symptoms.
Additional Details:
Canadian wildfire smoke has entered northwest Wisconsin Thursday
and will continue to move to the southeast through the remainder
of the day. On Friday, smoke will begin moving south, including
down Lake Michigan and into Green Bay, impacting central
Wisconsin and eastern areas as well. It remains unclear how far
south the smoke will make it down Lake Michigan, so we've
extended the advisory all the way to Kenosha County. Winds will
begin turning southerly Friday night into Saturday, at which
point the smoke will begin moving back north. It is possible that
the advisory will need to be extended into Saturday for some
areas of Wisconsin.

Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index
(AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category.
* WHERE...Central and south central Minnesota.

* IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience
health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung
disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A band of heavy smoke from wildfires in
Saskatchewan and Manitoba is moving south across northwest
Minnesota on Wednesday. The smoke will remain over the northwest
part of the state through the end of Wednesday, but by Thursday
morning the smoke will reach southwest MN. Smoke will also move
into the northeast and central portions of the state Thursday
morning, and by Thursday afternoon smoke will reach east central
and south central MN. Some uncertainty remains regarding how far
south the ground-level smoke will reach by Friday morning, when
winds are expected to become southerly and push the smoke back to
the north. Air quality should improve gradually from south to
north beginning Friday afternoon, with improvement in fine
particle levels below the alert threshold expected by the end of
Friday.

Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index
(AQI) is expected to reach the Purple or Very Unhealthy category.

currently impacting northern Minnesota as it moves east during
the day Friday. Air quality will worsen across northeast
Minnesota Friday evening as smoke arrives over the region. A
second round of smoke will move into northwest Minnesota late
Friday evening. This smoke will be more widespread as it moves
southeast overnight, and by Saturday afternoon the entire state
may be impacted. The heaviest smoke on Saturday will be across
the northern half of the state. Air quality will begin to improve
across western Minnesota Sunday morning as cleaner air moves in
from the west. By Sunday evening, the smoke should be gone from
most of the state. Another round of smoke is possible across far
