Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal
Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.
This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.
At noon, Severe Tropical Storm Fung-wong was estimated to be about 510 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 19.8 degrees north 118.3 degrees east) and is forecast to move north at about 10 kilometres per hour crossing the northeastern part of the South China Sea. In the past few hours, Fung-wong weakened slightly. The chance of having persistent strong winds generally over the territory is relatively low today. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force during the day today. Besides, the outer rainbands of Fung-wong are edging closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary gradually. Locally, there will be one or two light rain patches.
According to the present forecast, Fung-wong will skirt more than 400 kilometres to the east of Hong Kong overnight today. Meanwhile, local weather is expected to be dominated by the northeast monsoon gradually. When Fung-wong no longer poses a threat to Hong Kong, the Observatory will replace the Standby Signal, No. 1 by the Strong Monsoon Signal or cancel all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals.
There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

At 10 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Fung-wong was estimated to be about 530 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 19.7 degrees north 118.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move north at about 10 kilometres per hour crossing the northeastern part of the South China Sea. In the past few hours, Fung-wong continued to adopt a northerly track, edging closer to the coast of Guangdong. Locally, there will be occasionally strong northerly winds offshore today, reaching gale force on high ground. However, due to terrain sheltering effect, the chance of having persistent strong winds generally over the territory is relatively low. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force during the day today.
Fung-wong is expected to be closest to Hong Kong between later today to overnight, skirting more than 400 kilometres to the east of Hong Kong. It will then move towards the vicinity of Taiwan, departing from Hong Kong and weakening gradually. Unless Fung-wong adopts a track closer to the coast of Guangdong, the chance of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is relatively low. With Fung-wong departing, local weather will then be dominated by the northeast monsoon. Depending on the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will then consider replacing the Standby Signal, No. 1 by the Strong Monsoon Signal, or cancelling all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals.
There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
