For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 6 AM to 4 PM CST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Travel will remain hazardous at times into this evening, particularly near the lake. Lake effect snow showers will persist over portions of northeastern Porter County this afternoon. With very cold temperatures, the light and fluffy nature of snowfall will result in snow-coated roads, sharply-reduced visibilities, and slick travel conditions, particularly east of Chesterton. Motorists should use caution if traveling across northeast Porter County. Slow down in snow, add extra stopping distance, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.

Special Weather Statement
A band of heavy snow will move across far northeast Illinois, including Lake County and portions of McHenry and northern Cook Counties. Conditions will quickly deteriorate as the band moves through, reducing visibility to one half mile or less and producing a quick coating of snow up to half an inch. Motorists should be prepared to encounter localized hazardous travel conditions. Take it slow and keep a safe following distance when on snow covered roads and during periods of poor visibility.

The hazardous conditions will likely impact the Wednesday morning commute, especially in the northern Chicago metro area. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A heavier snow band is expected to develop late this evening into the overnight. If a long enough period of heavier rates occurs, localized snowfall amounts may reach upwards of 5 inches.

The hazardous conditions will likely impact the Wednesday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The highest snowfall amounts are expected to occur near and north of Interstate 88 and 290, with amounts tapering down to two inches or less with southward extent in the advisory area. There's some potential for a heavier snow band to set up in northern portions of the counties, and if this occurs, localized snowfall amounts may reach upwards of 4 inches.
