Special Weather Statement
ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR MUCH OF SOUTHERN WI... Clearing skies during the day Wednesday will lead to strong mixing and thus relative humidities are expected to plummet to 15-25% with very breezy winds (gusts to 40mph). This will lead to an increased concern for fire weather.
Red Flag Warning
...RED FLAG WARNING EXPANDED TO INCLUDE CHICAGO METRO... Conditions will turn very dry and windy this afternoon, making conditions supportive of brush fire spread. Even with rainfall last night generally 0.05 to 0.15 of an inch across northeastern Illinois, the combination of warm, dry, and windy conditions will cause fine fuels to dry out by early afternoon. As a result, the Red Flag Warning was expanded to include Cook, DuPage, Will, Kankakee, and Lake (IL) Counties until 8 PM this evening. The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect until 8 PM CST this evening. * Affected Area...Lake IL, DuPage, Cook, Will and Kankakee. * Timing...Until 8 PM CST this evening. * Winds...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * Relative Humidity...As low as 15 to 20 percent. * Impacts...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Special Weather Statement
Freezing drizzle and mist will continue across far northern Illinois this morning, ending from west to east between 3 and 5 AM. Untreated surfaces such as roads, overpasses, sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways will be icy where the freezing mist and drizzle is most prevalent. This includes across the Rockford metropolitan area. Pedestrians and motorists should use caution when walking or driving on untreated surfaces this morning, even after the freezing drizzle and mist ends.
Special Weather Statement
A band of light snow this evening (expected accumulations up to 1/2 inch) will be followed by a period of freezing drizzle tonight into early Monday morning. Expecting roads that are not snow covered or treated to become slick with freezing drizzle. Precipitation will end west to east early Monday morning. Leave extra time for travel tonight and use extra caution, as conditions may be slippery due to the combination of snow and freezing drizzle.
Special Weather Statement
A band of snow will spread across the area this evening resulting in a coating to a half inch of snow. Immediately behind the snow there could be a 2 to 3 hour period of freezing drizzle which may result in slippery travel especially on untreated and elevated surfaces. If traveling this evening or overnight use caution and allow for extra travel time to reach your destination.

This will likely result in additional localized accumulations and travel impacts.
Winter Weather Advisory
* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning through this evening, heavy lake effect snow. Snow accumulations locally in excess of 6 inches, particularly near the lake. For the Winter Weather Advisory on Saturday, another round of lake effect snow, with additional localized accumulations in excess of 3 inches possible. * WHERE...Central Cook and Southern Cook Counties. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until midnight CST tonight. For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 6 AM to 4 PM CST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Travel will remain hazardous at times into this evening, particularly near the lake. Additional localized adverse impacts to travel are likely at times on Saturday. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Accumulating lake effect snow will continue into this evening, and will fall locally at 1 to 2 inch per hour rates at times, making for hazardous travel conditions. This will particularly be the case for areas in close proximity to the lake. This intense band of lake effect snow is expected to shift eastward into northwestern Indiana late this evening and overnight, thus resulting in a several hour break in accumulating snow across Cook county overnight. However, the band is expected to shift back westward Saturday morning, and is expected to impact parts of northeastern Illinois on Saturday. While the footprint of accumulating snow is likely to be lower on Saturday, localized additional accumulations and associated travel impacts are expected.
Winter Weather Advisory
* WHAT...Two periods of accumulating lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations could locally exceed 5 inches, particularly near the lake. * WHERE...Northern Cook County. * WHEN...For the first Winter Weather Advisory, until 8 PM CST this evening. For the second Winter Weather Advisory, from 6 AM to 4 PM CST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The hazardous conditions will impact this evenings commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake effect snow is expected to impact the area in two waves. Winter Storm Watch
* WHAT...For the Winter Weather Advisory, a period of snow is expected, possibly heavy at times. A quick 1 to 3 inches of accumulation is expected within a few hour period. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy lake effect snow possible. Snow accumulations of 6 or more inches are possible, mainly east of the Dan Ryan and I-57. * WHERE...Central Cook and Southern Cook Counties. * WHEN...For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 9 AM to 3 PM CST Friday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from Friday afternoon through Friday evening. * IMPACTS...Travel will likely become hazardous as roads become snow covered during the mid to late morning through early to mid afternoon Friday. If heavy lake effect snow affects eastern Cook County late Friday afternoon and Friday evening, travel within the affected areas could be severely disrupted. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A burst of accumulating snow is expected mid to late Friday morning through early afternoon. The snow during this period may briefly fall at a rate of up to an inch per hour and make for hazardous travel conditions. Then, later Friday afternoon and evening, an intense band of heavy lake effect snow will develop over southern Lake Michigan, and may impact eastern portions of central and southern Cook County late Friday afternoon or evening. While the residence time of this lake effect band over Cook county may only be 3 to 5 hours, it would likely produce very heavy snow rates of 2 or more inches per hour and could result in localized accumulations exceeding 6 inches. Confidence is still low in whether eastern Cook County will be impacted by the lake effect band Friday afternoon and evening, if the band stays east over the lake into Indiana, then very little additional snow may occur.
