At 6 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Fengshen was estimated to be about 570 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.7 degrees north 111.8 degrees east) and is forecast to move west-southwest at about 12 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea.

This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.
At 2 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Mitag was estimated to be about 130 kilometres east-northeast of Hong Kong (near 22.6 degrees north 115.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour towards the coast of eastern Guangdong. In the past few hours, Mitag edged steadily closer to the coast of eastern Guangdong. Locally, strong winds are affecting high ground. Winds will generally strengthen. The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 will remain in force during the day today. The outer rainbands of Mitag are approaching the Pearl River Estuary gradually and will bring a few squally showers and thunderstorms to Hong Kong. Showers will be heavier at times later. Members of the public please be aware of the change in weather.
According to the present forecast, Mitag will make landfall over the coast of eastern Guangdong in the next few hours. Meanwhile, under the influence of the northeast monsoon, it will turn to a westerly track, edging closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary but weakening gradually. It will skirt around 100 kilometres to the north of Hong Kong. Depending on the rate of weakening of Mitag at that time, the distance of its gale winds from Hong Kong and the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signal tonight.
Seas will be rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Green Island and Tate's Cairn were 44 and 41 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts exceeding 55 and 54 kilometres per hour respectively.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal
Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal is in force.
This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the southeast quarter.
At noon, Severe Tropical Storm Tapah was centred about 190 kilometres west of Hong Kong (near 22.4 degrees north 112.3 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across inland Guangdong. Tapah is moving into inland Guangdong and departing from Hong Kong progressively. Local winds are expected to weaken gradually. The Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 at 1:10 p.m.
The rainbands of Tapah will continue to bring squally showers and thunderstorms to the Pearl River Estuary today, showers will be heavy at times. Gale force winds will still affect parts of the territory at first. Seas will be very rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Ngong Ping, Green Island and Cheung Chau were 80, 79 and 75 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts exceeding 116, 100 and 95 kilometres per hour respectively.
