Special Weather Statement
Fine fuels remain very dry across the Champlain Valley according
to the Vermont Department of Forest, Parks and Recreation. This,
combined with low relative humidity values down to 30 percent and
gusty northerly winds up to 25 mph may have an impact on fire
weather conditions Wednesday. If any fires were to start, the
weather and fuel conditions could cause fires to quickly spread
and be difficult to contain. There is a debris burning ban in
effect for Vermont.

burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please

Special Weather Statement
Fine fuels remain very dry across the area according to the
Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation and the New
York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Portions of
the region are also in moderate drought. Southerly winds will
quickly increase to 10 to 20 MPH today, with gusts up to 25 MPH.
Localized gusts up to 35 MPH will occur in the Champlain Valley
and far northern Adirondacks. These winds, combined with low
relative humidity values between 25% and 35%, will create near
critical fire weather conditions. Winds will be strongest between
noon and 8 PM, coinciding with the timing of the minimum relative
humidity values. If any fires were to start the weather and fuel
conditions could cause them to quickly get out of control and be
difficult to contain. Fire weather conditions will quickly improve
as a wetting rain arrives in the late afternoon and evening.

restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit

Air Quality Alert
The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality
Health Advisory for Code Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
category due to Fine Particulates for Caledonia, Eastern Chittenden,
Eastern Franklin, Essex, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Orleans, Washington,
Western Chittenden, and Western Franklin until midnight EDT tonight.
The air quality index, or AQI, is expected to approach or exceed the
Code Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category due to Fine
Particulates.
When pollution levels are in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
category, the Vermont Department of Health recommends that these
individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to
reduce the risk of adverse health effects.
People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated
levels of pollutants include the very young, older adults, and those
with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart
disease and those working outside.
Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal
physician.
People with asthma should follow their asthma action plans and keep
quick relief medicine handy.
If you have heart disease: symptoms such as palpitations, shortness
of breath, or unusual fatigue may indicate a serious problem. If you
have any of these, contact your healthcare provider.
An Air Quality Action Day means that particulate concentrations
within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

Air Quality Alert
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at
Albany NY has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for fine
particulate for Eastern Clinton, Eastern Essex, Northern Franklin,
Northern St. Lawrence, Southeastern St. Lawrence, Southern Franklin,
Southwestern St. Lawrence, Western Clinton, and Western Essex
Counties in New York until midnight EDT Tuesday night.
Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than
an air quality index value of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
category for fine particulate. The air quality index, or AQI, was
created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants
to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health
concern.
When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of
Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous
outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health
effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of
elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with
pre existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal
physician.

air quality
Smoke from forest fires in the Canadian Prairies is causing poor air quality and reduced visibilities. A gradual improvement of these conditions is expected by Wednesday morning.
###
As smoke levels increase, health risks increase. Limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.
You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.
People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
