Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal
Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.
This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.
At noon, Severe Tropical Storm Fung-wong was estimated to be about 510 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 19.8 degrees north 118.3 degrees east) and is forecast to move north at about 10 kilometres per hour crossing the northeastern part of the South China Sea. In the past few hours, Fung-wong weakened slightly. The chance of having persistent strong winds generally over the territory is relatively low today. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force during the day today. Besides, the outer rainbands of Fung-wong are edging closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary gradually. Locally, there will be one or two light rain patches.
According to the present forecast, Fung-wong will skirt more than 400 kilometres to the east of Hong Kong overnight today. Meanwhile, local weather is expected to be dominated by the northeast monsoon gradually. When Fung-wong no longer poses a threat to Hong Kong, the Observatory will replace the Standby Signal, No. 1 by the Strong Monsoon Signal or cancel all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals.
There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

At 2 p.m., Typhoon Fung-wong was estimated to be about 740 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong (near 17.3 degrees north 118.8 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour crossing the northeastern part of the South China Sea. Fung-wong is expected to maintain a distance of over 600 kilometres from Hong Kong today (10 November). The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force before noon tomorrow (11 November).
According to the present forecast, Fung-wong will turn northwards gradually over the northeastern part of the South China Sea, and will be closest to Hong Kong between tomorrow night and Wednesday (12 November) at first, skirting about 400 kilometres or more to the east of Hong Kong. Depending on the intensity change of Fung-wong, its distance from Hong Kong, the impact of the northeast monsoon on Fung-wong, and local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need for issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 or the Strong Monsoon Signal. Fung-wong will then move towards the vicinity of Taiwan, departing from Hong Kong progressively and weakening gradually under the influence of the northeast monsoon.
Under the combined effect of Fung-wong and the northeast monsoon, the water level over the coast of Hong Kong will be generally about 0.5 metres higher than normal during the high tide overnight tonight. Flooding may occur in some low-lying coastal areas in the small hours. The water level at Victoria Harbour will rise to around 3 metres above chart datum. There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
