Southeast winds will sharply rise to 70 km/h gusting to 90, and 90 km/h gusting to 110 km/h over exposed coastal sections, beginning late this morning as a deep low pressure system passes over northern Vancouver Island. As the low makes landfall on the mainland coast, winds will veer to westerly 50 km/h gusting to 90 late this afternoon.
Nimpkish Lake will also see strong southwesterly winds gusting to 100 km/h late late afternoon and early this evening.
Winds will subside later this evening as the low moves inland.

Prolonged Atmospheric River Event
What:
Up to 120 mm near Port Renfrew by noon today.
Where:
Port Renfrew, Bamfield, Jordan River
What and when:
- Periods of heavy rain continues until noon today.
Impacts:
- Prolonged heavy rain on snow combined with mountain snow melt could lead to very enhanced responses in river systems and the potential for flooding.
- Extensive water pooling on roads and washouts possible.
- Enhanced risk of landslides due to saturation of the ground.
Remark:
An atmospheric river will remain over the South Coast of B.C. through this afternoon. With freezing levels near 2000 to 2500 metres, snowmelt from higher elevations may increase the impacts associated with this rainfall event.
Heavy rain will begin to taper off by late this morning as a cold front sweeps across Vancouver Island. Freezing levels will also lower to 500 to 1000 metres by Saturday.
