The heaviest snow is forecast to fall in a relatively narrow band with amounts quickly decreasing on either side of the band, making this snowfall forecast on the challenging side. A period of freezing drizzle will continue late this evening across eastern Wisconsin. With temperatures below or near freezing, the freezing drizzle, along with the refreezing of any melted snow, will lead to some icy spots on roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces. Light to moderate snow will continue for a prolonged period from tonight through Saturday night. Areas along and south of Interstate 90 are expected to receive at least 6 inches of snowfall with the highest amounts favored in northeast Iowa and far southwest Wisconsin, where 8 to 12 inches of snow are expected. Heaviest snowfall rates are expected Saturday afternoon over northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin, approaching 1 inch per hour at times.
